WHAT WE
HAVE TO DISCUSS!

Before we introduce a specific schedule with all the headlines, descriptions, speakers, panelists, and other details, we would at least give you an impression on this year’s topics so you get a glimpse of what you can expect. Stay tuned for major updates! (And please forgive us some later changes of priorities..!)

Putting together a program that combines four to five different focal perspectives in six parallel strands is not that easy, especially when, in times of pandemic, nobody really knows who is allowed to travel from where to where, what conditions we will face and who therefore prefers to stay at home. And then there is the question of the conference’s carbon footprint, which, if we are serious about ecological transformation in nightlife, in cities and around the world, has to get smaller and smaller. Nevertheless, we are calm and motivated, full of anticipation and zest for action regarding the question of what we can discuss with each other and who we can invite us to. Here’s a little outlook!

HEALTH, WELLBEING & URBAN LIGHTING
The topic isn’t new, but as we all feel the fast transitions of cities and societies, of urban living conditions, the vanishing of public spaces and other aspects of urban pressure, we look with great expectations on the research on how we can support our wellbeing and health with the means of light…

Focus: Health, Prevention & Security

SYNTHETIC CANNABINOIDS
Fake Cannabis, that’s not really what we’ve been waiting for…

WHAT HAPPENS ON THE MARKET
Facts, figures and numbers.

MENTAL HEALTH AND NIGHTLIFE
The C-19 pandemic is prooving that nightlife is essential for the younger generation in many health-related aspects. Positivly spoken. The backside of the coin shows that some effects of nightlife itself might also have some uncomfortable consequences for mental issues…

DRUG CHECKING
Our long-runnig favourite subject when it comes to the questions of what we consider to be the most effctive tool for a safer nightlife… Some countries still think, refusing drug checking is like defending the last Gallic village from the evil Roman empire… Fortunately, we have a lot of evidence, data and findings to share…

PURPLE DAZE: HIP HOP & OPIOIDS
(T)Rap music, Hip Hop and related genres have been promoting opioids like, back in the days, hippies had advertized LSD. But mood is changing. Like the band Velvet Underground produced a record glorifying heroin before they produced another one with just the opposide message, nowadays some Hip Hop artists, formerly generating the hype, now are recording songs against taking Tilidin, Xanax, or Benzo’s…

Focus: Club-, Festival- & Night Culture

SEXISM FREE NIGHTS
Besides it sounds like a really good idea to implement something like a sexism-free framework for nightlife all over Europe – and the world – it is actually a very real pan-European project with organisations from five different countries working on its realisation. The idea is to generate data about the status quo and to implement experiences from many different awareness projects into a European code of conduct for nightlife.

UNITED WE STREAM
Streaming has been a big issue during the pandemic. The most successful and iconic project is „United We Stream“ – collecting half a million Euro for endangered Clubs, producing hundreds of streams reaching millions of nightlife and music enthusiasts. What sustainable impact in nightlife and music is related to the virtuality of culture? What will the digital future of nightlife look like, when no one likes to see any stream coming from an empty club any more?

FESTIVALLAND BRANDENBURG
The periphery of Berlin – the vast spaces between Berlin and Hamburg, Berlin and Dresden, Berlin and Leipzig as well as Berlin and Magdeburg – are ideal areas for festivals of all kind. Allthough the Federal State of Brandenburg isn’t really amused to be called „periphery of Berlin“, it has a lot to offer to those living in the capital (and other big cities around). Brandenburg lurs cultural activist with its rual beauty and the slogan to be the „festival-state“. But what does the nice claim has to offer, when it comes to the patchwork quilt of administrative specialities, local absurdities and individual power of single representatives in politics and administration?

FLY, ROBIN, FLY
We explore the carbon footprint of touring DJs by analysing the tourplans of Resident Advisor Top 1000 DJs…

SN8 SPECIAL 1:
COCA(INE) CONFERENCE

In continuation of the very successful “Keta(mine) Conference” at the last Stadt Nach Acht 2019 (part 1 | part 2), another psychoactive substance is moving into the focus of the health strand this year: The cocaine conference takes the highly problematic – and yet ever more widespread – substance into the center of this year’s consideration. The focus topic again extends over several panels.

The spectrum of discussions extends from the extremely bloody and violent consequences of the very lucrative cocaine trade for numerous Latin American cities and states to the health and social effects of the steadily increasing cocaine consumption to its role in a club culture, which has a big impact on ‚awareness‘ and sets their political stance. Numerous experts from home and abroad discuss the continuing triumphant advance of the drug from its importance for nightlife as well as for the political and corporate control centers.

SN8 SPECIAL 2: INTERNATIONAL NIGHT AMBASSADORS MEETING

International Night Ambassadors, Night Mayors and other representatives of administrative rsp. formal nightlife structures from many European cities discuss common strategies and international networking activities.
A:WARE – Be:WARE
To educate a bunch of people who pay to have fun isn’t the most easiest task on earth. But nighttime is the maybe most needed field for safer spaces for all kinds of nonconformistic, non-binary people. It should develop conditions, where everyone can get home in the same state as he/she/it had entered the scene. We need educated staff, an alert conciousness and ideas of how to deal with the troubleshooters…

Focus: Night Time Economy

AMAZON AGE
Yes – you remember right! We implemented exactly the same headline allready in our 2019s ( part 1 | part 2) edition. And because the phenomena hasen’t declined – en contraire – we’ll have to talk again about the structural change of inner city’s districts and what role culture and nightlife can play here…

BUNDESSTIFTUNG LIVEKULTUR
The hottest, well: the newest shit in Germany is something called The Federal Live-Culture Foundation. It secures space for music clubs and festivals in order to preserve live culture as part of the (German) cultural landscape in the future. Let’s discuss their contemporary methods and plans to cultivate and maintain the pop, club and live music culture.

GLOBAL NIGHTTIME RECOVERY
You’ve thought, that we would get along with this year’s RE:SURRECTION claim without talking about the impact of the pandemic on global nighttime affairs? Well… no. But of cause we’re taking our heads up and discuss everything with an intense look into the future of post-pandemic promises. And the challenges on its way.

Focus: Night City Development

CLUBTOPIA – A GREEN NIGHTLIFE DEAL!
We all know that climate neutrality is a hard and essential task of what we all do and plan in the future. Nightlife isn’t on the front line of progression here, allthough conciousness of acteurs as well as expectation of clubbers and night crawlers of all colors are changing towards a greener setting. But steps are still too small and the planet’s pressure to act fast and sustainable is constantly rising. What can we do in smaller and more important: wider scale to gain velocity?

SPACES OF URGENCY
Space is the place! In times of massive pressure through real estate utilization, through profits from urban densification and – in some countries – through an anti-liberal agenda towards freedom of expression, queer or counter-culture, polticial activism and other pillars of an open society, the question of urban and safe spaces has to be asked: urgently!

Focus: Night Time Politics

GO EAST!!
Berlin is one of the few ciries, which can honestly claim to be the link between Western and Eastern Europe. And while the classic European hotspots of nightlife like Barcelona or London don’t offer much more city spaces for thrilling new places, Eastern Europe is beginning to wake up all its sleeping promises and potentials for an incredible vibrant night culture. Come and discover the future!

PARLIAMENTARY FORUM ON CLUB CULTURE
On our 2019s edition, a non-partisan working group on nightlife issues, the PARLIAMENTARY FORUM ON CLUB CULTURE has been founded – and gained a giant success by implementing clubs ad live music venues as „facilities for cultural purposes“ into urban planning regulations. This should have great impact on how clubs might develop and gain (financial) support in the future. And a couple of weeks after German national elections, there’s a loadfull of new questions on the agenda for the upcoming years…
