There is a lot more going on in Berlin while STADT NACH ACHT 2021 is taking place. To make sure you have the opportunity for some extra input – or entertainment – you might also consider to visit one of the following SIDE EVENTS. The visit is free at the estimated time(s) – but as cpacity is usually limited you have to register for certain events to be sure you’re in. Once the lists are full you might get your name on the substitute’s list. Enjoy!

Soirée Des Voyageurs

DANCE TO ECSTASY

The „Safer Nightlife Berlin“ network is organizing salon events on issues related to health and nightlife. The seventh „Soirée des Voyageurs“ will take place as part of the international Stadt Nach Acht conference – focusing this time on the links between dance, being high, and the state of ecstasy. 

Since time immemorial, dancing has served ritual, symbolic, unifying and intoxicating purposes. However, dancers who got high from their own movements were also suspected of being possessed and of disturbing public order. 

What significance does dancing have (and perhaps always had)? With which positive and negative associations was and is dancing symbolically charged? Which dance rituals, settings, and techniques can be traced back a long way, but are still often found on the dance floors of our clubs and festivals today? What happens when we integrate dancing as an important part of living?

A PARALLEL WORLD WITH SEVEN MULTIDIMENSIONAL INSTALLATIONS OF LIGHT SPACE AND SOUND

This is a word of Christopher Bauder, the creator of Dark Matter Dear Guests of STADT NACH ACHT, Since the beginning of the pandemic, I have been working on my most extensive and varied project so far, to which I would like to invite you. For a year now, we have been transforming an old factory site into a walk-through light and sound experience for you. The artworks which have traveled the world over the last 20 years are now coming together in one exhibition in Berlin. Never before have I had the opportunity to show so many of my installations in one place:

Meeting Point: In Front of the Registration (at the street)

You will experience how light and sound interact with you and how the boundaries between the real and the digital world become blurred. This exhibition brings together all aspects and milestones from 2 decades of creative work and technical development.

IN BERLIN CLUBCULTURE

Die Existenz von G (GBL / GHB) in unserer Szene zu verschweigen, auf einzelne Orte, Gesellschaftsschichten oder Konsummuster zu reduzieren, bringt uns nicht weiter. Deshalb stehen wir weiter ein für einen verantwortungsbewussten und offenen Umgang mit dem Thema. Um diesen Dialog aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven zu beleuchten, Verantwortlichkeiten und Herausforderungen tiefergehend zu diskutieren, widmet die Awareness Akademie ihren 7. Roundtable dem Thema G und läd uns und euch herzlich dazu ein.

DOKU MOVIE: CLUBCULTURE BERLIN

Berlins CLUBKULTUR taucht ab ins prä-pandemische Berliner Nachtleben. In eine von Idealismus geprägte Welt stillgelegter Fabriken, verlassener Luftschutzbunker und Schwimmbäder, in deren Bars und Clubs Freizügigkeit, Fetisch, Sexperimente, Beats und Techno wie ein Magnet Menschen aus der ganzen Welt in den Underground gezogen hat.
Um dort nachts genau das zu tun, was sie tagsüber nicht konnten – sie selbst zu sein. In einer parallelen Realität aus Eskapismus und Ekstase, in der Musiker, DJs, Performance Künstler, Macher und Clubber zu einer Kollektiven wurden, in der nicht nur Musik, sondern progressive soziale Werte und Offenheit sichere Orte jenseits der gesellschaftlichen Norm schafften.
Mit der Pandemie ist die Club-Landschaft Berlins zum Erliegen gekommen, und mit ihr das Leben einer ganzen Industrie und Community, in der sich alles ums Überleben im kulturellen Niemandsland dreht. Was bedeutet das Club-Sterben für Berlin und die Gesellschaft?Eine Dokumentation von Leonie Gerner & Andrea Schumacher.
Berlin’s CLUBKULTUR dives into the pre-pandemic Berlin nightlife. Into a world of idealism characterized by disused factories, abandoned air-raid shelters and swimming pools, in whose bars and clubs permissiveness, fetish, sex experiments, beats and techno drew people from all over the world like a magnet into the underground.
To do there at night exactly what they could not do during the day – to be themselves. In a parallel reality of escapism and ecstasy, where musicians, DJs, performance artists, makers and clubbers became a collective where not only music, but progressive social values and openness created safe places beyond the social norm.
With the pandemic, Berlin’s club landscape has come to a standstill, and with it the life of an entire industry and community, where everything revolves around survival in a cultural no man’s land. What does the club death mean for Berlin and society? A documentary by Leonie Gerner & Andrea Schumacher.
